Quick Check-In

My internet is still down at home. :( The hubby was oh-so-kind and left his laptop at the house today so I could get some stuff done on the internet. So I still can't do any of my blogs that I have pictures for. (I'll have some major blog-catching up to do once everthing is working again). BUT I have figured out how to blog with pictures from my phone. I love technology! So there's a little ray of sunshine for me.

Jealousy perhaps?

I think my laptop might me jealous of my new-found mobile internet buddy. Ever since I got my new phone on Saturday, my laptop has refused to connect to the internet. Everything is connected properly. It is showing that it is connected, but connection. Yes, I can blog from my little Moto Q, but it's pictureless blogging. BORING!!!! I hope the laptop gets over it soon, or I might just have to replace the old hag. (I kinda like that idea).

My Weekly Grocery Successes

It was a pretty great week for shopping. Here's the breakdown:

Store #1
WAY too many items to list, BUT I bought 76 items.
Original Total: $152.93
Actually Paid: $10.92 93% savings
I had $34.15 off in coupons, plus I had a gift card with a balance of $42.38. I got the gift card by filling 2 prescriptions at the store pharmacy. They will match competitor's coupons, so I got a $60 gift card. Nice!

Actually Paid: $78.83 36% savings
Now, you know that's not a great percentage but wait! With my qualifying purchases, I earned 2 free movie tickets & a $25 gift certificate to the store of my choice. Sweet!

A Prayer for Brittany

The following was written by a friend. She captured my feelings about Brittany and the sad situation. I hope she doesn't mind me borrowing her words. This little girl lives in my community as well:

There is a young girl in my community named Brittany who has cancer. After a really long struggle and many miracles, she is not doing well. I have seen a community of people come together for this little girl through garage sales, fundraising, and many other things to help her family. She has not been feeling well today, and tonight, she was rushed to the hospital, suffering from dizziness, headaches and unbearable pain. The MRI did not look good. The tumor is growing. Despite everyone’s prayers, thoughts, support and neverending love, Brittany is quickly losing her battle. Tonight is not a good night for this family.

I really have no words that will do this situation justice. While my heart is breaking for this little girl and her family, I am also in awe at her strength and stamina and overall good attitude. Please take a moment to think about this family and send them some support, a thought, or a prayer. I cannot even imagine what they must be feeling at this horrible time.

We are also trying to get Oprah to help us hook up Brittany and Hannah Montana. If you would like to help, please copy the letter below and paste it on this form and send it to Oprah. Thanks!

Dear Oprah,
I am writing to you about a little girl I have never met. But she is the reason I hug my own children tighter and kiss them that extra 2 or 3 times at night. Her name is Brittany and she is in the fight of her life right now. She has a malignant, inoperable, uncurable brain tumor. Her condition has recently become worse and her doctors have stopped her chemotherapy. Her family has been told that they need to take her home and love her. How do you do this knowing what it means in the end? I know about Brittany and her family through a community website in our city - Kingwood, TX. The community has come together in many efforts to help this family, mostly as fundraisers to help with the financial burden that has been placed on them. Everyone wants whatever time Brittany has left to be special and filled with events that will give her family wonderful memories. Brittany would love to meet Hannah Montana. If there is any way your show could make this happen for her, it would mean more than you can ever imagine. God bless you and the work you do for so many.

A True Tragedy

My heart is broken. There is a pit in my stomach. I've done something awful and I don't know if I can forgive myself.

I was making some delicious buttermilk pancakes and there just happened to be a little buttermilk left over. What was I to do with that poor little buttermilk? Pour it down the drain? Heck NO!!!! I had to make one last, mouth-watering buttermilk pie. (Don't judge me!) I divided the recipe in 1/3, whipped up the batter, poured it in my last pie shell, and stuck it in the oven. 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Done. Then I turned down the oven to 300. The pie needed another 30 minutes. BUT I forgot to set the timer. Mistake number 1. I realized about 3 hours later that I had left the pie in the oven. Dang it! Well, I take it out. It's pretty brown....not burnt, but definitely over-cooked. Then the hubby says, "A true fan would still eat it...."

Oh no he didn't!

I grabbed a fork and dug in. It was edible, but not enjoyable. Mistake number 2. Hey, at least I tried.

Something fun

I found this little questionnaire on another blog and thought it would be fun to answer. Plus, I'm not feeling too creative today. So here it goes:

1. How old is your blog? signed up in Jan 2007, but didn't start posting until March 2007

2. How would you categorize your blog? The ramblings of an ADD lady???

3. How did you come up with the name and design of your blog? I feel that my life is small, hence "my little life". The description I actually borrowed (with permission, thank you) from a friend that had used it in her link to my blog because it was better than what i had before

4. Do you lie in your blog? nope.

5. Are you passive-aggressive in your blog? i don't feel that i'm passive-aggressive in anything. why start in a blog?

6. Do you ever threaten to quit? no. i'm still enjoying it a ton!

7. Have you deleted any of your own posts? Why? only one. it was funny, but maybe not the most appropriate thing to post

8. Do you delete mean comments? Luckily I haven't had any mean comments yet. But if i did get a mean comment, i would probably delete it. i don't like negativity.

9. If your readers knew you in person, would they like you more or like you less? i'm not sure. i feel that i'm funnier on the web than in person, but i'm still a really fun person in real life. guess you'd have to ask those that know me in person. :)

10. How many blogs do you follow? Maybe about 15 or so. i love catching glimpses into other people's lives.

11. Which blogger do you want to meet in real life? i'd like to meet lone sophist (i do know her sister). and i'd love to meet zoot. both are very talented writers.

12. Does your family read your blog? i think so. suzi (my sis) is the only family member that comments regularly. my mom and other sis, alli, comment occasionally...hint, hint. if there are any of my other family members reading, you better start leaving comments!

13. Do you have a hit counter? counters

14. Is blogging narcissistic? Somewhat. (okay, i admit, i had to look up narcissistic). I think that it's a great opportunity to brag, whine, rejoice, cry, whatever, just to get it all out.

15. Do you feel guilty when you don't post for a long time? way guilty! that's probably prideful, but i feel like i'm letting people down.

Not my best, but still blog-worthy

It was a good week for shopping. I didn't even have any "super coupons" like $5 or $10 off, and I still saved like crazy! Here's the list:

2 bags Chex Mix
2 boxes Nature Valley granola bars
2 boxes Gushers (sorry Suzi...they're for the girls)
2 Betty Crocker Warm Delight desserts
1 box Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal
2 boxes Total cereal
1 box Lucky Charms cereal
3 boxes Kraft Mac & cheese
5 bottles of Juicy Juice
1 bottle of Tree Top apple juice
2 bags of Lays potato chips
1 can of Spam
4 sets of Dole Fruit Bowls
2 boxes of Premium Saltine crackers
3 cans of Chicken of the Sea tuna
1 bottle All Small & Might detergent
1 1/2 gal Newman's Own Lemonade
4 Marie Calendar's frozen dinners
12 bottles of Citre Shine Shampoo & conditioner
2.45 lbs of bananas

Total before coupons: $154.29
Care to guess what I paid?
Total savings: $113.75 74%

I even got several good coupons along with the receipt, as well as coupons for 2 free gallons of milk and $0.75 off my next order.

Not too shabby...

A day in the sun

I've always had trouble falling asleep. And not too long ago, I found out that I have ADD and that insomnia is a sign or whatever you want to call it, of ADD. So for years, I've been taking Tylenol PM or more recently just the PM part (or benadryl) to help me fall asleep. Once I'm asleep, I'm asleep! But lately, I just can't seem to fall asleep....even with the aid of medication. It's quite frustrating, especially when you have a 7 month old baby that will more than likely wake up at least once or twice in the night due to a misplaced pacifier, and that your four year old is prone to bad dreams and wakes up crying almost every night. VERY frustrating.

So today, we spent 6 hours at our local pool, basking in the warmth of the sun. The girls had fun splashing around with their friends. Baby G had fun peeing on me. (Those swim diapers don't absorb it in case you were wondering). It was a good day. I love the pool. I got a little color on my pasty whiteness. Tomorrow we'll see if it's more of a pinkish hue or a brownish hue.

After spending all day in the sun, I'm hoping that I will just crash like my kids. If not, I might have to splurge and get a 2x4. That'll do the trick for sure!

Tuesday, A New Day

Today was a much better day than yesterday. Thank goodness! The kids and I ran around doing errands most of the day. They were VERY well behaved. (The family home evening talk must have worked last for the parents!) I got a new purse, new capris, a few goodies for the kids, some stuff for the hubby for father's day, and even made it to lunch with some friends to celebrate a birthday. We went to story time for dinner and now the girls are in bed asleep. (K did get spicy in her mouth for putting a dice in her mouth. She has a bad problem putting foreign objects in her mouth, but the hubby dealt with that while I was at a meeting).

So now I'm eating the remainder of my buttermilk pie. Yes, I'm eating 2/3 of a pie in one sitting. Shut up. I don't care. It's delicious. For those who were curious of what a buttermilk pie is, here is the recipe:

Buttermilk Pie

3 x 9” unbaked pie shells
½ Cup butter, melted
3 Cups Sugar
3 Eggs
¼ Cup Flour
½ tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. lemon juice or white vinegar
2 Cups Buttermilk
½ tsp. vanilla extract

Cream the butter, sugar, and eggs thoroughly. Add flour and blend well. Mix soda, lemon juice, buttermilk, and vanilla extract. Blend into first mixture. Pour into pie shells and bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 300 degrees and continue to bake for 30 minutes.

Plus, my husband left me a tiny, well....HUGE love note on our garage floor. Wasn't that so sweet? I sure love that man of mine!

I think I hate summer vacation

So we're starting the 3rd week of summer vacation. The first week was busy because it was all new. The second week was good because the girls had "summer camp." And now we're on week 3. The girls were grounded from TV on Monday. They were acting really well, so I let them watch a movie that afternoon. Must have been a bad idea because they started acting very obnoxious afterwards and lost TV for Tuesday. Both girls got "spicy" in their mouths tonight. One for accidentally biting her sister and the other for back talking. I'm torn because should I schedule some activites, like going to the pool, a trip to the library, perhaps a bowling outing? But then they wouldn't "pay" for their bad behavior. I gotta figure something out because my kids are going to drive me crazy!

On a yummier note, I made 3 buttermilk pies. (My new favorite). I shared one with a friend and the missionaries, sent one home with the missionaries, and the last one is all mine! Yep. That's right. I'm going to eat the WHOLE thing by my lil' ol' self!

Another Movie Memory

I'm sitting here watching Karate Kid and remembering the impact it had on me as a child. Thanks to Karate Kid, I knew how to catch a fly with chopsticks; heal a sore shoulder or knee by simply rubbing my hands together; train to be a karate champion...wax on, wax off; hit extra hard with the Daniel-son karate hand--fingers curled in like a sign language "e"; and you knew you could knock Johnny's lights out with "the kick!"

A Lazy Day

So I've basically been doing nothing today. I've watched one of my favorite moves, "So I Married An Axe Murderer". My husband just bought the DVD for me. It's absolutely HYSTERICAL! Here's a montage of clips from it. (There is some language, so you've been warned).

So other than pee my pants from laughing so hard at Mike Myers in action, I've pretty much done nothing. But it's's FRIDAY!!!!

New Habits

I'm trying to develop some new, good habits. One that I've been very successful at is making my bed every morning. So what if I cheat and don't use a top flat sheet? All they do is get tangled up anyways! My husband just doesn't appreciate the beauty and satisfaction of getting into a made bed at night. There is just something very soothing and relaxing about it. Next habit to form: keeping my dining room table cleared.

I've been a bad blogger!

I know. I'm sorry! I've been trying to wean myself off the computer a bit, and I've actually been doing very well. BUT it's not good for the blogging! I'm behind on reading and I'm behind on writing.

So what have I been doing to keep myself busy? I've been cleaning my carpets. (They look great by the way). I've been running kids around and hanging out with my friend, Brenda. Doing a bit of laundry here and there and EVERYWHERE! Getting my rear view mirror fixed. Picking blueberries. So life is good. I just need to be better at blogging more frequently. :)
