The kidney report

Well, there is good news and there is bad news. Bad news first: Once your kidneys make stones, they don't stop. Good news: I can still drink an occasional Dr. Pepper. Woohoo!

I saw the urologist today. She said that I had very small stones in my left kidney (the one that passed the first stone) and the beginnings of stones in my right kidney. She said that if your kidneys form a stone, they will continue to form them. Lovely. Thanks for those genes, Dad!

But you can control them for the most part with diet. So I have to drink 2 liters of water a day along with 2 ounces of lemon juice.I also have to watch my protein intake, which isn't too hard since I'm not a big meat person. Sodium is the enemy....less than 1000mg per day. She told me that I could drink my Dr. Pepper, but I have to match it with water. So if I drink a 20 oz. DP, I have to drink 20 oz. water. I can do that.

The pain and discomfort I have been feeling since my epsiode are thanks to the 1/2 cm stone I passed. She said that passing a stone is very traumatic on the body. No kidding! She said that I will have soreness and cramping for about another week. The goal now is to shrink the current stones so that when they pass they are more like sand than stones.

I go back in 6 months for a CT scan and a check of how my stones are doing (or even better, not doing). Looks like just more rest for me until I'm healed. Thank goodness for my laptop!

One down, one to go

The first kidney stone passed this morning without too much discomfort or pain...thank goodness! (Don't worry...I won't post a picture of it.) I still have the stone in my kidney. I haven't had anymore painful episodes. I will hopefully know more after my doctor appointment tomorrow. Thank you to everyone for your prayers and concern. :) I have had so many people helping me out, from watching my kids, picking up and taking to school, being on-call while my hubby was at work, and even grocery shopping for me! WOW!

What a way to end the weekend

I started having menstural-like cramps around 4 or 5pm. They started to get worse, and I thought that it might be an ovarian cyst that was bursting. (That hurts pretty bad too). The pain continued to get worse and worse. It was hurting WAY worse than any childbirth contractions I had ever experienced.

My husband called a friend and arranged to drop the kids off so he could take me to the hospital. We first went to Hospital #1 since it was the closest. We went in and there were about 50-75 people in the waiting room. Hubby was not waiting, so put me back in the car and drove down to Hospital #2.

There was no one in the waiting room and we got right in. I was screaming like a banshee! I was in so much pain. I have NEVER felt pain like that before. I even threw up twice from the pain. It took a little time to get into a room and see a doctor. Once I saw the doctor, they were able to give me some pain medication. I felt much better after that, but I was freezing cold from the cold IV fluid. I even felt good enough to take a couple pics of me drugged up and my husband patiently waiting. Lovely pics!

They took me in for an MRI and found 2 kidney in my kidney and one stuck at the entrance to my bladder. So I got sent home with some pain meds, a funnel with a strainer to catch the stone, and an order to see a urologist.

Now I am just tired, sore and waiting for the first stone to pass. I am drinking a lot of water. No more Dr Pepper for me for awhile. :( And I'm drinking lemon juice to help dissolve the stone in my kidney. Lucky for me, we have a lemon tree in the backyard. My husband is taking a few days off work to take care of me and the kids. I

What a day!

I have been SUPER tired lately...who knows why. (No bun in the oven). My sweet husband let me sleep in this morning. I didn't wake up until I got a call from my friend, Tracy at 10:45! I couldn't believe I had slept in so late! Well, after I finished the phone call, I quickly got dressed and headed downstairs. Hubby and the kids had cleaned pretty much the whole downstairs! (And is was a MESS!) What a nice surprise!

After we ate, we headed out to the garage to clean it out. The girls were great helpers and the baby was really cooperative as well. We got the whole thing cleaned out, with a carload of Goodwill stuff and an embarrassing amount of trash. I can now pull my big SUV into the garage. That's the first time in over 6 months. Yikes! We treated ourselves to a little Texas BBQ for dinner. It was so good! Then we had to hit our local Petco because we had a "25% off any saltwater fish" coupon burning a hole in our pocket. So we got a lobster, a coral and an anemone. Pictures to come later. Time for a nap!

For my love

My sweet husband wanted me to post some updated pictures of his tank. He has gotten a lot more live rock to fill it up. It is looking really nice. There are also a few pics of Gozilla, our very large brittle starfish, on the move. Sorry there are so many shots, but I have to make sure I get one that the hubby is happy with.

I really don't worry about many things. I'm not a "what if-er" by any means. That is my husband's job. But there is one thing that, I guess, I am afraid of since it keeps showing up in my dreams. The dream is me and various members of my family in the car somehow driving off the road into deep water. The water comes up so fast that I can't get the windows down to get out. I usually have a kid or two strapped into a car seat that I have to get out before they drown, and of course I wake up before I know if we were able to save the kids. So after the first of these dreams, I asked my sweet husband if he could get me a thingy to break the window if I needed to, so he got me this nifty gadget. And after my dream last night, I am putting it in a better place! In my dream last night, I knew I had the glass breaker thingamagig, but couldn't find it. Very frustrating! Needless to say, I was awake for an hour or two.

What is my deal?

It is 2:04 PM and I am still in my pajamas. I haven't eaten lunch yet and need a nap. I have been somewhat productive today...I have done a couple loads of laundry, I got the front-facing car seat out of the attic along with some toys for the baby. I printed off my recipes for my frozen meal exchange tonight. And that's about it. Oh, I did watch a video on the new Mac operating system, Leopard. It looks SO cool!!!!

I was overdue

We were running around doing errands today when we were rearended at a traffic light. Thank goodness I have a gas-guzzling SUV, so there was no damage to us or the truck. But her poor little Civic had a square hole in the bumper from our trailer hitch. It was a young teenage girl. I felt bad for her. The hubby tells me, "Well, at least you have something to blog about."

"But it wasn't very exciting. All of my blogs have to be thrilling and/or interesting."

"All of them?"

"Yes!" I said, scandalized. "Every post I make is spectacular!"

"Uh-huh," he said, unimpressed.

Dishwashing wars

I've never really had a dishwashing soap preference. I've always just bought was was cheapest, usually the store brand. Then comes the Grocery Game, and I start buying name brand stuff, usually Electrasol and then some Cascade. So I have been using the Electrasol, either in tablet form or the gel in the bottle and it's been okay. This is dishwashing good can it be, right? And I've always been a pretty good pre-rinser anyways. I guess that is a habit that you form when you don't have the top-notch dishwashers.

So I had gotten some of the Cascade Action packs. I used a couple bags of them. Then I ran out and had a bottle of the Electrasol gel with Jet Dry. Holy Cow!!!!!!!!!!!! It sucks! It leaves those annoying little grainy remnants on everything when the cycle is done. It doesn't get anything that is remotely stuck on off. What the heck? So now I know that dishwashing soap does make a difference. Who knew!?!?!

Now what am I supposed to do with the 20 boxes of Electrasol tablets I have? (And don't you think that I am even exaggerating).

Back to business

Well, after some strong antibiotics and a lot of rest (thanks honey!), I am functional. I'm not all the way better, but at least I've gotten dressed today. I have my voice back too! Woohoo! Now I have a huge mess to clean from being sick for several days. Time to put that chore calendar to the test! Thank you for all of your concerns and well-wishes. :)

Sick muggle update

Just in case you cared....I am still sick. I did go to the doctor this morning and got some antibiotics and decongestants. My dear, sweet hubby even took the day off Friday to take care of me and the kiddos. What a guy! I'm just hoping I'm better by Monday.

A Cleaning Update

My system is working pretty well, but today I'm sick. So I'll just have to move all my stuff to tomorrow and Saturday I guess. I got all my bathrooms cleaned and my kitchen scrubbed down. I just hope I get better quickly because mom's don't get a sick day. :(

Tuesday, October 9, 2007

I am absolutely terrible at organizing my time. I don't have a problem keeping appointments and such, but rather making time for tasks that I don't much care for, but that need to be done. One of these things, okay a LOT of these things fall into the "cleaning" category. I know how to clean. Very well in fact. My mother taught all of us how to clean pretty much every inch of a home. And while I was a kid, with the threat of grounding, I was pretty good at doing my assigned chores. (I might not have always had the best attitude about them, but not being able to go out with my friends was motivation enough for me to get them done.)

So fast forward 10-15 years to the present time. Mom isn't around to ground me from going out with my friends if the chores are not done. If I want to go out, I do whether the dishes are done or not or whether the floor is shiny and clean. I do like a clean house, it's just getting there and staying there that seems to be my problem. This is when I wished I had just a tad of OCD. Guess I'll just have to settle for my ADD and make the most of it.

So I had a mini-revelation that I think will help me in my struggles. I am a VERY visual learner. I don't do well in the abstract. I need to be able to see stuff and move it around. So I came up with the idea to have moveable chore tabs that I can move around on my calendar. Now I can actually see in writing what needs to get done. I can move it to a new day when it is completed. Or I can move it if I ran out of time that day. But at the end of the week, there will be certain things that I have to get done. I'm just hoping that my Friday doesn't end up being full of chores.

I am hoping that this will help me be better at not wasting time. We shall see. Wish me luck!

Brenda ROCKS!!!!!

She really does! She came over today, and not only did she brighten my day with her company, she help me clean my house! Okay, so she did most of the cleaning. So now my house is sparkly and clean, and my hubby even noticed that it was clean. He just laughed when I told him Brenda came over. During the summer we hung out pretty much everyday and the hubby always could tell when we had been hanging out at our house because it was clean. He would ask if Brenda had been over that day. So Brenda, THANK YOU for all of your help, and thank you most of all for your friendship!

For Super Mario Bros Fans

If you have a Wii, you have to download the newest addition to the Virtual Console. It's called Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels. It was a game only released in Japan. It is like a really cool cousin to Super Mario Brothers. It is a totally different game though. So if you know every hidden object and every secret passage-way, then this is the game for you! I've only played it a couple times, but I haven't gotten past stage 1-2! Guess you all know what I'll be doing for the next few days....

Police and Pasta

While I was out this morning, a group of mounted police officers rode up. It was so exciting! Baby G loved it! The horses liked me. I got squished inbetween 2 very large horses.

For lunch I met with some friends for a little italian food. YUMMY! But the restaurant was very strict and would only take 1 of our coupons. But we all had a TON of fun and laughed like crazy!

Flight of the anemone

The story of our carpet anemone. Grab a tissue.

:::Please note the tone of sarcasm threaded throughout this post:::

Hubby and his anemone. Did you notice the picture he's referring to?
