Blueberry Picking

We got up nice and early on Saturday morning for our annual blueberry picking trip. You have to get up super early to avoid the majority of the heat. We got to pick in our favorite section that has big, juicy berries that are nice and sweet. We picked 11½ pounds. They freeze great and make the best freezer jam. (The trick with that is is that you actually have to make the jam. It doesn't make itself).

UPDATE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS:

  • The blueberry farm is in the Houston area: http://www.moorheadsblueberryfarm.com/
  • Blueberries are $1.50 per pound
  • The picking season is now through mid-July. (Always call if you want to go in July or later because they might be out).
  • The farm provides buckets free of charge.
  • You can also buy honey collected from the bees that pollinate the farm....SO good!

that is so cool. Where do you go to pick these blueberries? And do you have to pay? Or do you just get to have what you pick?
No matter the details, what a fun family trip. Our family lives for things like this. We love taking trips to go fish, or pick vegies from a big farm, or whatever... but this sort of thing is very popular with the Gray's.
Anyway, looks like you got some big blueberries. And 11 pounds? How fun! I bet your kids loved it!

    And the jam? .. YUM!

    Loved this post!
    You're family is so cute.

Seattle was a fun place to live because berries grew everywhere! Blackberries especially...you could stop off the side of the highway and just pick some! Anyways, hope you enjoy the berries!
